Food for Thought

I have the feeling that I'm going to emerge from this weight loss process an even more political person.

I've been frustrated by the state of our food system for a long time, but I didn't feel confident to raise my voice to speak to these issues while I was still weighed down by my own weight issues. (Crazy, I know.) But now that I'm staring to lose weight, I feel the need to add my voice to the growing chorus of voices saying that our food system has to change.

I resent the fact that poor quality processed foods have largely replaced the nutrient-rich whole foods that were the mainstay of our grandparents' diets. But, even more than that, I resent the fact that governments have not upheld their responsibility to ensure that the best scientific evidence (as opposed to pressure from food industry lobbyists) guides their nutrition policy-making

And now a brief update from me. I've lost 11 pounds. And my energy level has increased because I'm being physically active on a regular basis. Thanks for all the support, everyone.
